YK Communications Begins Phase 2 of El Campo Fiber Build-Out

9:11AM August 14, 2017

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - JULY 15, 2017

YK Communications has announced that Phase 2 of the El Campo fiber build-out is now underway.

After identifying a need for faster and more reliable broadband services in the area last year, YK Communications made the decision to begin construction of the El Campo fiber optic network. The new fiber network will have 100x the bandwidth of other networks with faster internet service and more accessibility for local homeowners and businesses. The first phase of the project has brought coverage to businesses along the West Loop, as well as dedicated fiber connectivity between the Public Safety Building and City Hall. This also included Business 59/Jackson Street as far north as City Hall.

Construction of Phase 2 began the week of July 10, 2017, and the first three weeks will focus on the Phase 2 backbone and the placement of a building to house electronics and equipment along W. Monseratte Street. Next, construction will begin along Mechanic Street near Jackson Street and continue north towards West Loop. After this portion is completed, construction will occur at Mechanic Street a few blocks south of Jackson Street. During the last segment of Phase 2, there will be a few small additions to the Phase 1 construction to cover areas along E. Jackson Street to Wharton Street.

The entire project is on schedule to be completed by the end of 2017.

“The primary goal for Phase 2 will be to cover the businesses along Highway 71 from Buc-ee’s to Greek Bros,” commented Russell Kacer, President of YK Communications.

YK Communications will be hosting a town hall meeting to review the details of the Phase 2 Fiber Build-Out on Tuesday, July 25, 2017, from 4:00 – 6:00pm in the Myatt Room of the El Campo Civic Center. Members of the company’s team will review construction maps and plans, answer questions, take service orders and more.
